Rock on, TJ! You were way too cool for this market!
Not good enough to anchor in Little Rock, but good enough to anchor at CNN? Hmmmmmm??? Bet THV would like to have him back.
WOW, that's two former LR anchors moving to New York here recently. Must not be such a bad place to work afterall. And yes, there have been others from LR that have moved to bigger places including NYC.
NY? Won't he be in Atlanta?
I heard from several of his co-workers that he couldn't write his way out of a paperbag. Guess he doesn't have to worry about that now. It will all be done for him
Good looker.....
Yes, TJ was too good for Little Rock, but not good enough to anchor at THV. That's screwed up. He was very well liked, and I am so glad he doing well. Yes, success is the BEST revenge in the world. THV had a chance with him, and blew it big time.
I worked with Iler in Joplin before TJ, and I can believe it. And having ties there to this day, I have never heard an unkind word said about him-- from camera ops to station management. I say, "way to go!"
Let me clarify my last post-- I've never heard an unkind thing about TJ! Iler, on the other hand...
Well no matter what... all is said and done. Congrats TJ!!!
I am so happy for you, T.J.! I worked there for a little while a few years ago, and he was nothing but nice to me. He was a great reporter/anchor, and he has the smarts and the looks to go along with it. He will be great at CNN. Congratulations!
I'll just say this... UGH. I worked with TJ at THV.... this is the prime example of style over substance, and that's not just being bitter over someone else's success. Back in the day, he just didn't "get it". Maybe being in the SF market helped him "get it". Good luck to TJ. Good luck to CNN... they'll need it, unless he's just reading the prompter.
Rock on, TJ! I know TJ and he's a great guy and this is a PRIME example of good things happening to good people. He deserves it.
Also worked with TJ at THV. And he DID get it. Always has.
Anybody who says he couldn't write or was just a "looker" has no idea what it takes to succeed in this business.
Which is why you're probably still in Arkansas.
Sorry, why y'all still in Arkansas.
I know he is glad that he is not back in Little Rock!
TJ SUCKED SO BAD, HE"S ON CNN!!!!

Great guy, but hated Little Rock, said everyone was a racist and couldn't wait to leave! Used to get threatening phone calls while he worked at KTHV. Shouldn't have that problem in Atlanta.
CNN doesn't know what they're doing. When they figure things out T.J. will be replaced.
He can't write!
Since when did you have to be able to write to become a TV news anchor?
Obviously you've never lived in Atlanta, one of the most racist places in the world. I know from first hand experience that mixed marriages don't go over well in Atlanta.
As for TJ's talent, he's an average reporter and lacks basic anchoring skills. Maybe his time in S.F. did him some good, but he was barely a shining star in Little Rock. This is the same market that has Liz Massey as a main anchor. Get out of your little bubble.
While I got along with him great as a person, his lack of skills made him difficult to work with. He was clueless and lazy in the field. He was often carried by his photographers. His ascent to San Francisco was based on three things; age, race, and a cheap salary. If any of you think it was anything else, you're kidding yourself.

How can you lack BASIC anchoring skills and ascend to a market the size of SF/San Jose? You know what - I worked with TJ myself - he's a very good reporter - an excellent anchor - and a damn fine human being. BTW, thanks for pulling out the race card - color doesn't even play into this debate. As far as salary goes, I'd love to make what he was making - it was anything but cheap. I'd put him up against anyone in this market, that's for sure. TJ gets it - that's why he's moved up the ladder.
I worked with TJ back in the day at THV. We had some great times together, and I am so happy for him. I shot for him on many stories and I never found him lazy or any of the other negative things said about him. One thing I can say about TJ is that even back then, he knew he was going to be a star. He wasn't arrogant about it, just confident. I guess he was right! I hope he kicks a$$ at CNN!
Congrats TJ and great addition to CNN. Kudos to CNN for identifiying good talent and making the latest round of talent changes in the past month. And, if age and race plays an issue..well its about time. I doubt that CNN hires any thing but good talent
Tj Holmes is AWESOME! I don't know him, but would like to... I am merely a viewer of CNN and look forward to watching because of him. He's doing something right, oe he wouldn't be where he's at today. You're damn right looks sell... He definately has the look! Rock on, TJ!
Quite worthwhile info, thank you for the article.
The dude is completely just, and there is no skepticism.
