It's certainly a shame that someone had to lose "his" job in order to make room for a person who knew she wasn't interested in being there in the first place. Thank God for karma because KTBS is certainly experiencing it right now.

Wow, I thought she was a little more well-liked than that. Geez! But, then again, it sounds like her abilities as a "meteorologist"/weather person left plenty to be desired.
How are they going to get someone to take that job knowing that, if she comes back, they're out the door? Or, did she burn her bridges this time around?
Well this is no surprise. Heck when she came to town, he had legal issues concerning a contractual obligation with a former station. But it's like if you look like you should be doing porn they'll hire you in an instant. She'll land on her feet in Fla. probably doing some weather at WTVJ or some other station unless she burned bridges there. Course she knows how to work it.

Why does ever thread on here turn negative? I watch all three stations in Shreveport (like some better than others) and can change the channel if I want. For those of you who are always negative, you might want to start looking in the mirror in the morning and working on the person that is staring back at you.
By the way, I do not work in the news business, and have no affiliation with any media outlet.
Bring back Marcy Novak- she was an actual meteorologist and knew what she was talking about!!
I don't believe you could call this thread negative when all that's been said is the truth. A veteran of the game was sent packing to allow her return. Hers aren't the only "boobs" at KTBS.
Marcy has moved on to a station that lets her do what she was contracted to be, a meteorologist, and not be forced to report, and do silly live shots that were not weather related.
She will not be back.
Sure there is a lot of negativity, but at least on this thread, it's all true.
Here's one thing. I just saw the job posting on KTBS.com for a meteorologist/reporter. Here's my problem with that. You're never going to get a quality meteorologist when you ask them to report, too.
You're starting to see more mid-sized markets do this, and it's a major turn off to potential candidates. "Must have AMS seal", but then you want that highly qualified meteorologist to report, too? It's not gonna happen. This started off as a way for small markets to hire degreed meteorologists on the weekends... let them get their foot in the door in the business by letting them do two days of weather and three days of GAR. Now, mid-size markets see it as a way to cut costs.
I can guarantee you this. Unless KTBS is paying a ridiculous amount of money for Jennifer's gig, they will NOT get anyone worthwhile who is willing to report. Someone who is stopping in Shreveport for a two or three year contract as their second (or perhaps third) job as their moving up the market ladder isn't going to want to do that.
Not to mention... KTBS's morning format (4:30-7a, 7-7:30a, 11:30a-12p) is pretty brutal. After being awake at 3a, you're going to want someone to go out and turn a story, too?! WOW!
Sorry, just my two cents. I work in the business and I'm tired of seeing so many markets jump at the opportunity to cut costs. It's a big turn-off to any quality talent you may attract.
Hopefully KTBS will get someone decent. Meteorologist should be just reporters, but every market in Shreveport makes weekend mets do reporting jobs.
That's because the weekend Mets at KTBS, KTAL, and KSLA are right out of college, and working at their first or second station.
5:23 PM is 100% correct. Everything at KTBS has changed over the past two or three years.We also have added responsibility's that are not in any of our job descriptions. Now we are doing our jobs plus the jobs of three or four other people who have either quit, been fired, or been laid off.
I'm watching the morning show right now and Jennifer looks as orange as Snookie. I can't take any one seriously who looks like an Umpa Lumpa.
you couldn't get some tits from the Hustler Club to come on the air for 35 seconds to stand in front of a green screen, do choreographed steps (Jennifer's reports featured the exact same movements no matter which broadcast you caught), and read off a Weather Channel forecast?
Jennifer wasn't interested in weather, couldn't give an accurate report (based on her own analysis)...she was just reading off what someone else interpreted.
She did wear the hell out of some sweaters and slacks, though....and by the end of her segment, I forgot what the forecast was, anyway
if KTBS wanted to help the morning broadcast, they would get rid of the nancy-pants douchebag guy and the old Nancy Grace cuntface.....

KTBS is a sweatshop. Plain and simple. All the employees know it, they complain to everyone but management. The ones who are still there deal with it either because they can't find another job or they enjoy being big fish in a little pond.
KTBS has some good people on the air that I enjoy watching, but my only complaint is that it is too obvious that they are hiring people who don't have experience yet. It shows that several of their reporters are doing this for the first time and the weekend anchor sounds like he's fresh out of college too. The weekend meteorologist has gotten better but she's still not experienced enough for this size market.
So do they do they change the Reeves Marine jingle? I guess it will just be see Rodney and old skipper too.

The thing about KTBS is that you have to be a right wingnut to work there. It should be them instead of KTAL to take over Faux33, because they could merge their newscast and nobody would notice the difference.
BPCC's news would be better then the fake news KMSS gets from it's sister station in either Baton Rouge or Tyler.

I wish KTBS would come up with a shorter name for that newscast.... But that would mean creating a new graphic opener which is so much work!!! I mean, I'd hate to mess with those tacky graphics which look as if they were created in Microsoft Paint!!!
OMG, what's going on with Shreveport TV? KTBS use to be really good, but the last several times I've been in town it's been terrible. You have really come down in the world so your ratings must be falling too. I recognize a few people on your station, but where are you getting these kids from? Your 6:00 pm newscast looks like a father and son doing the news. And what's the deal with the Christmas graphics? Red and gold year round? Whatever!
KSLA is still the same as ever, but Ron Young who was the chief met on KTAL for years and years, is the only person I recognize on that station.
Even with all of the improvements, KTAL is just as horrible as ever. Now I do recognize Todd Warren, who use to be on KTBS, and Patrick Dennis and Michelle White who use to be on KSLA. Even with the three of them the whole station is still as big of a joke as it ever was. You should have seen their newscasts Monday. They were pathetic. Why the FCC hasn't shut them down by now is beyond me. None of my family or fiends who still live in Shreveport and Bossier CIty watch KTAL.
Be thankful for the red and gold graphics. We were originally going to go with yellow and a very bright orange. Haha, just kidding. I like to think our graphics and animations look decent, but to each their own.
Before Jennifer leaves, maybe she could pass along to her fellow Shreveport meteorogists that the word they are trying to say in their forecasts is not "hunert" (as in the commonly heard, "Todays high should reach one hunert degrees). The word is pronounced "hun'-dred, as in "The high today should reach one hundred degrees.' Many viewers would appreciate the effort to speak English.

I agree with Former Shreveporter, the local news is not as good as it use to be. I've watched KTBS all my life, but I just don't like it any more. I switched over to KSLA, and their news app is fantastic. They just blow the other stations away. That's why they are #1 in this market.
KSLA is not #1 in every hour, just most.
So what. KSLA is #1 over all, and their on air product is proof of that.
George Sirven originally picked THE EXACT SAME GRAPHICS PACKAGE THAT KTAL USES.
The only thing that stopped him was the graphics company won't sell the same gfx to two stations in the same market. Guess even George won't watch KTAL.
And as to KSLA's ratings win, people just chose the lesser of two evils.

I know that KTBS has gone way downhill, but I swore off KSLA back when they were so biased in their reporting about Jena, and they blatantly the march for criminals as "March for Justice".
I've been watching 3 almost exclusively since then, but it is getting difficult to avoid looking elsewhere. The Gerry/Steven matchup is just awful, and I fail to understand why there needs to be two talking heads reading the news anyway. It is not like they spend a full half hour with the camera trained on them. They introduce a lot of reporters and there are commercial breaks to boot. One person being the anchor is sufficient. I don't know what is happening at KSLA since I swore off of them, but Gerry is the best of any newscaster that I have seen in Shreveport, but that is faint praise indeed.
3watcher I'm sure there are other viewers like you who changed over from KSLA to KTBS, but not that many. KSLA is still the dominate station in this market, and has been for many years.

I disagree with you about only having one anchor. Like every market around the country, the stations in this market have had a co-anchor format during the week for over 30 years now. The only station currently not running a co-anchor format is KTAL. That's because the former news director refused to fill the position when Rick Boone left for Sacramento two and a half years ago. Now that KTAL has a new news director, they finally hired a new co-anchor and he will start in a few weeks.
KTBS's news use to be very good, but those days are long gone. It also use to be a great place to work. I know, I was one of the 16 people they laid off in their first round of lay offs. KTBS has developed a very bad reputation within the business. They have now laid off more people at the station then KSLA, KTAL, and KMSS/KSHV combined.
Sooo happy I was able to get out of KTBS when I did. I am still in the tv news business, working as a reporter in a top 25 market. Unfortunately, I learned a lot more of what NOT to do than what to do during my time at the sweat shop. Good luck to everyone that still works there, and may you find a light at the end of the tunnel that gets you out of KTBS before you are too jaded to stay in the business...

So Jennifer Reeves is the latest token white girl. It is refreshing to see considering our market looks more Latin American then American. I am quite sure I will anger some one with that.
I don't know what the big deal is. Just enjoy the eye candy and be happy. Lets face it most of us couldn't do any worse at weather "forecasting".
A thermometer, barometer and humidistat are all the scientific tools you need to "forecast" weather. Watching the eastern and western skies helps some. And living in the area for at least 10 years will go a long way.
